Exclusive: nationwide poll also shows the vast majority of Americans say they wont be more or less inclined to vote for Clinton because she represents the idea of America electing its first female president.Apr 10, 2015 2:56 PM EDT
If Hillary Clinton is to become her party's 2016 presidential nominee, independents and even Democrats overwhelmingly want to see her earn the title, according to a Bloomberg Politics national poll that also shows increasing headwinds for her candidacy.
As Clinton prepared to formally announce her candidacy on Sunday, nearly three-quarters of Democrats and independents in the survey said it would be a good thing for the Democratic Party if she were to face a "serious" challenger for the nomination. Democrats and independents hold the same view, with 72 percent of both groups saying her party would be best served by a robust primary.
That presents a potential opening for other Democrats considering bids, including former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley and possibly Vice President Joe Biden.
Shes not a naive person. She knows the law and has been in government and knows records retention issues.

Facing a serious challenge "would prepare her for debates and things like that against the Republican nominee," said poll respondent Marc Witte, 66, a Democrat and clinical counselor from Poland, Ohio. (14,449 posts)At least two or maybe 3 are challenging her. Having one candidate ensures no coronation. Did everyone forget Webb actually is the only one running right now? Where is the no coronation for Webb story? Where are the articles demanding Hillary Clinton and Martin O'Malley announce so that Webb isn't the candidate without working for it?

(13,877 posts)never heard anything like that from her, although I do miss a lot of things. Did she ever say these things herself, or is it just some more "swiftboating" we're being fed? If you look at her record, she's a somewhat liberal candidate and has depth of experience. We could do worse...we don't have anything better at present.
And yes, I think debates are a good thing, as are other candidates. Mostly positioning for VP because of the money issue...which may be soundly laid at the SCOTUS' Citizens United Feet. Both party nominees now can and have to raise a shit-load of money which beholdens them, to some extent. However, many of these funders give to both sides. Heads I win...tails you lose kind of thing.
One thing I know for sure, my vote is not as persuasive as Sheldon Adelson's or the Koch Brothers and it's not Hillary Clinton's fault.
