While he was preparing to board Air Force One, a rainbow appeared high in the sky, and cameras managed to get the president's picture perfect goodbye. The White House's official photographer, Pete Souza, snapped an image of Obama waving with the rainbow appearing to arch right out of his hand.

"So long Jamaica," Souza wrote on Instagram.

It comes from the battles between people who expected more of Obama, more in-line with candidate Obama, and True Believers for whom Obama could do no wrong and could do no more. You joined after most of the heated exchanges on DU. Perfect example: Pushing for single-payer vs what we got. Many were dismayed or outright angry that Obama didn't even try to fight for single-payer, while the other half would say the votes weren't there (seeing as no push was ever made, how can one claim votes aren't there?). They would dismiss the first half as wanting ponies and being purists.

The battles still happen, but people are tired. Now we have the battles over Hillary to look forward to...

Rainbows are not by any means rare in tropical climates. They don't move around (other than with your own view of the 42 degree incident angle of the sunlight)

The plane is going to be boarded by that ramp.

It doesn't take any sort of genius to know that he's going to go up the steps and wave goodbye, so you move to the point where the rainbow is going to be in the frame and wait for him to wave.

I took this photo of my bike a while back, and it is not a cosmic accident that the sunset lines up with the wheel the way it does:



You move to the angle where things line up. It's not a random accidental "exact moment".

It's just like setting up these "halo" shots, which are classic fare:











The photographer has freedom of movement to line up any two things separated by distance, and can move along the linear axis to get the foreground subject to be the desired size in relation to the background object.
