Here’s What Marijuana Looks Like Under The Microscope [Photos]

Ever wonder what marijuana looks like up close and personal?

Now you can see how cannabis appears to the scientists who study it, thanks to a new book called Cannabis Under The Microscope: A Visual Exploration of Medicinal Sativa and C. Indica by Ford McCann.

The book features over 170 images of cannabis in its full glory, taken with optical and scanning electron microscopes.

Have a peek below:

Because trichomes are translucent, like this:

I've never seen a trichome look like the ones in the included image.

Can you imagine how much popular it would be if they really looked like that?

Surfaces are covered with an electron reflecting metal layer a few molecules thick, from which electrons bounce back to a detector, so no transmitted light through trichomes. The resulting images are in black and white, and are secondarily colorized in Photoshop or another image editing program. But all objects are effectively opaque in the scanning EM view.

A $3 ebay microscope resolves trichomes better than that SEM image. It's overkill, and ugly IMO.

Pretty. Love the shades of green, the translucence, the gel-like appearance of the trichomes, the light reflection off the wet surfaces.
