Steaks and Seafood to be Removed from Food Stamps Programs

One Missouri lawmaker is working to place more limits on the foods that may be purchased through the government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

According to The Washington Post, some foods, such as steaks and seafood, are seen more as luxuries than necessities to be covered by tax payers. The proposed bill also bans the purchase of cookies, chips, energy drinks, and soft drinks. The bills intention is to revert to using stamps for nutritional assistance.

It can be cheaper than ground beef. I've never seen a bunch of people so worried someone might get an unmerited extra dime of government services. If only they applied their philosophy to big oil.

These idiots have no idea what they are claiming. I can often pick up a bag of fresh shrimp at my local HEB for less than 2 lbs of ground chuck. Jesus, I can't stand these people, and what the hell are people doing looking at how other people are paying for their groceries and what they are buying?

What we need is a MYOFB (Mind Your Own Fucking Business) Law.

should do if they really mean business is take a week and follow a CYS worker around as she/he visits clients. Take a look at what the kids are eating. Take a look in the cupboard. Without some actual in-the-field study they have no idea what they are talking about.

The in-laws and we have often talked about going there together, splitting the gas costs, and doing a big shopping trip. Hopefully soon we'll do that. It'd be a great way to restock the shelves.

I'd actually like to see TANF expanded for MORE Omega Fat fishes and free range antiobiotic free meats. I'd gladly pay a bit more to give people whose food budgets are marginal - access to more food with a high nutritious value.

It's wasteful calories and money to feed people spam and velveeta. Then they get sick. Then there is more expense.

All stuff that you can make a vat of for cheap; all involving seafood or beef used for flavor and not as a big slab o' protein.

Look at how the Mexicans, Asians, Italians, African-Americans, Irish, and so forth have cooked for generations. None of them are sitting down to a steak dinner, they're using that cut to flavor vegetables and grains.

Does he think poor people are stupid and are going to blow a week's worth of food money on one meal?

Ugh.
