School bus drivers with alleged militia ties face embezzlement, gun charges
DAVISON TOWNSHIP, MI -- Two school bus drivers with alleged ties to the Michigan militia are facing multiple felony charges after authorities claim they embezzled more than $50,000 to stockpile a large arsenal of high-powered weapons.
Steven and Sarah Nick, of Davison Township, are facing a combined 15 felony charges after Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell claimed they embezzled money from Sarah Nick's 67-year-old mother to fund the secret cache of weapons.
Pickell said Monday, April 7, that the couple was able to stockpile more than 30 firearms, including a .50-caliber machine gun and sniper rifle with suppressor, 17,000 rounds of ammunition and other various firearm accessories.
The couple was arrested March 27.
Multiple bulletproof vests, including one bearing a patch that read, "We kill for peace," lined Pickell's office after they were allegedly taken from the couple's Bristol Road home by his deputies. Authorities also discovered a vest for the couple's 9-year-old daughter, Pickell said.
Pickell said his office began investigating the couple in August 2014 after his elder abuse task force was tipped off by adult protective services.
