“No no no no no no no no: Listen!” He-man Rand Paul lectures a lady — again - By Joan Walsh

The senator lectures NBC’s Savannah Guthrie on how to do her job. What's Paul's problem with female interviewers?

JOAN WALSH

We saw the best of Sen. Rand Paul Tuesday afternoon as he announced his presidential candidacy: thoughtful, in control, strong on civil liberties. We quickly saw the worst of him again: Mansplaining Randy Paul showed up on the Today Show Wednesday morning, lecturing Savannah Guthrie on how to do her job and otherwise being contentious and contemptuous. You can watch it here:

-snip- The video may be seen at the link to Joan Walsh's column.

After a few pleasantries – Paul claimed he was too interested in sports, “academics and reading” to ponder a career in politics when he was younger – Guthrie asked him his position on the “framework” of an Iran nuclear deal announced last week by President Obama. Paul said he thought only Congress can lift the sanctions it imposed. That’s a controversial view, but widely shared. Fair enough.

Then Guthrie asked about three ways he’s changed his “unorthodox” foreign policy views in recent years: He once said Iran wasn’t a threat, he opposed foreign aid to Israel and he favored defense cuts; he’s flipped on all three.

Before she could finish the question, though, Paul interrupted her: “Before we go, before we go, before we go through a litany…why don’t you let me explain before talking over me, ok?”

“Sure,” Guthrie said. But Paul continued to berate her.

Before we go through a litany of things you say I’ve changed on, why don’t you ask me a question, ‘Have I changed my opinion on it?” That would be sort of a better way to approach an interview.

OK: Is Iran still not a threat?

No no no no no no no no; listen, you’ve editorialized, let me answer a question. You ask a question, “Have my views changed?” instead of editorializing and saying my views have changed. OK, let’s start out with regard to foreign aid.

Then he simplistically and condescendingly walked her through the world according to Rand, with one more peevish “let me answer the question” about his evolving position on aid to Israel.

What a steaming load of entitlement. Paul interrupts an interviewer, then blames her for talking over him and lectures her on “a better way to approach an interview.” When she accepts his premise, and asks the question the way he suggests she should ask it, he won’t accept it, and berates her yet again.

Like most libertarians, he's full of bu$hit. Basically, he wants the Federal Government to rule OVER YOU and not him. I consider most libertarians for what they are: RWNJ who want to smoke dope so they look cool and can get laid.

Rand Paul is just another conservanut asshole. His campaign will get some cash and will use it later for his retirement. I think that's what he wants because he's got a snowball's chance in Hell of winning.

It is unfortunate that all that will likely be running will be similarly condescending and self important.

Fuck him and his selfish Randian philosophies.

If only decent people would run for the gig, if any do (and I have my eye on two that might be different IMO) we could have someone to vote for rather than against as usual. It is doubtful that anyone but assholes like him, his fellow asshole republicans and their half sibling assholes that believe in the third way of fucking all but the wealthy will end up in the final two.

The wealthy and their enabling boot-licks are destroying this country and the world, none of them will do much beyond further enriching the wealthy at the expense of nearly everybody else, if only more could see this truth in others besides this obvious example of such human excrement, but unfortunately, people on both sides of the aisle will be blind to the threats posed by the ones they sponsor as their sports team player of the year.

Bernie and Elizabeth are the only two I am aware of that may actually be different, I hope one or both will run and one will win the nomination, allowing us to vote for our best interests for a change rather than voting for the evil that is less potent in it's desire to siphon us dry in order to add a few more numerals to the wealth of people already so wealthy they will never spend more than a fraction of a fraction of their fortunes thus releasing it back into the economy where it could do some good.

Not diffidently.

Women, understand that every time you are faced with this kind of bullshit, your response ripples out and reaches other minds.

Start responding to the intent (condescension) , not the smokescreen of information colating.

Maybe not. Is he just revealing that he does not have the temperament nor the intellect of someone who wants to be president of the United States? A BIG YES ON THAT ONE.

He now sends a chill down my spine when I think of a lightweight like him in the most powerful leadership position in the world.

rookie running for the Senate. 2010 I think it was - when she basically threw out her whole line of questioning because he was bobbing and weaving around her first question and wasn't answering. Her question was - should businesses be able to deny service to blacks/minorities? And he danced and waffled all over the "well, I wouldn't eat there, but..." and "Freedom-freedom! A business has the freedom to discriminate and freedom to be assholes if they want. Because Freedom-freedom!"

CLASSIC textbook coaching job we're seeing here:

1) Talk OVER the interviewer/questioner/opponent. AT ALL COSTS. Whether they're asking you something or refuting something you just said, doesn't matter if it's their turn to speak. Screw that. TALK OVER 'EM! Drown 'em out! They'll usually stop and concede the mic to you if you just keep on talking. Translation: because THEY were taught not to be rude. That rule's for THEM, NOT us! Short-sheet 'em! TALK OVER = TAKE OVER. Well, Savannah Guthrie, to her credit, did NOT stop and concede ground before FINISHING HER QUESTION.

2) Turn it around on the media. Make it THEIR fault, THEIR rudeness, THEIR misdeed, or THEIR misperception (the Indiana line of defense last week before they finally caved - it's YOUR fault for MISINTERPRETING! YOU got it wrong. YOU'RE perceiving it wrong. THAT'S where the fault lies. Certainly NOT with poor innocent harmless li'l victimized US!).

There may be a 3rd, although if Joan Walsh's observations take root, that will become a very sticky wicket for the party that claims it's misunderstood by the women's voting bloc (OUR fault, I'm sure, among us women). Keep it up, Brillo-Head Boy! You're gonna have a bigger problem with women than you even realize. Please proceed, Senator.

He's SO not ready for Prime Time.

But there again, you have a CLEAR specimen to illustrate the problem that comes from living in a bubble. You move into that nice manufactured bubble where EVERYBODY sees the world your way and EVERYBODY thinks you can do no wrong and EVERYBODY fawns - especially when you are the designated "Crown Prince" of the family, the new standard-bearer, the heir apparent (with his hapless ding-dong of a dad). This is where your schtick never fails. Safely within the insulation of your nice comfy cozy little Bubble World. VERY well-reinforced by the air you breathe - fragranced with hate radio, scene-set and sex'd up with the bells, whistles, bright lights, and blonde bimbos (and himbos) on Pox Noise. One step OUTSIDE that bubble and you're in the real world where not everybody drinks the Kool-aid, and not everybody buys into the propaganda. And if they're press people actually, and objectively, doing their jobs - you're not gonna get the kid-glove treatment from the Amen Chorus. You won't even HAVE an Amen Chorus. And you'll have to swim in the deep end of the pool without water wings.

He's not used to that. Especially in his position as "the little prince" of the family. SHEESH, just think of it. He was freakin' BROUGHT UP in that, born into and raised in a ron paul household, fed that with his mashed bananas via baby spoon when he was first learning to eat solid food, breathing in that dingdong world view every time they repeated how-to-tie-your-shoelaces with him when he was three, every time they took him to the potty to teach him how, every time they sat him down with his ayn rand coloring books - no wonder he has no bearings in the real world! NO WONDER!!!!

NO WONDER.

because I happened to see this interview today and I could only shake my head. It wasn't so much the multiple "no's", but rather the way they were spoken... SO peevishly and disrespectfully. What a tool.

Yeah, you will get lots of votes from women.
