Christian congregation's tri-faith campus vote holds weight for Jews, Muslims

Temple Israels synagogue is open at the planned tri-faith campus site near 132nd and Pacific Streets. A vote by Countryside Community Church members to build at the same campus comes next Sunday and could trigger the release of pledges by non-Muslim donors to build a mosque at the same site.

The ironically named Hell Creek runs through a sloping Omaha landscape that soon could unite some Christians, Muslims and Jews in a long hoped-for tri-faith campus that a spokesman said would be one of a kind.
If the $60 million campus is completed, Vic Gutman of the Tri-Faith Initiative in Omaha said, It would be unparalleled in history. Were not aware of any other campus like this.
Next Sunday, members of Countryside Community Church will vote on whether to build on the 35-acre campus south of 132nd and Pacific Streets. Said the Rev. Eric Elnes, senior minister: The mood is prayerful right now.
That will be a key vote, and not only for Countryside.
