Dressed in reflective yellow construction gear while working under the cover of darkness early Monday, a small group of artists installed a tribute to NSA-leaker Edward Snowden in a Brooklyn park.
The Snowden bust stands atop a column at the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Fort Greene Park, a site built to honor more than 11,000 American prisoners of war who died aboard British ships during the American Revolutionary War.
The location is no coincidence.
Speaking to Mashable on the condition of anonymity, the artists said they chose the spot because it is "loaded with significance and meaning and reverence of others." It positions Snowden, they said, "as a continuation of a story that began at the beginning of this country" one represented in the plight of the captured Americans.

(62,325 posts)from the serious issue of Government Anti-Consitutional surveillance of an entire population, it is fine to respond with art or any other way to get attention for this issue.
Snowden among all the other persecuted Whistle Blowers, has been turned into a hero, ironically by the very people who wanted to silence him.
So blame the anti-Whistle Blower contingency for causing the appreciation he is receiving from people everywhere who actually care about Governments breaking the law.

(55,445 posts)Books, movies, academy awards, donations, speeches, magazine covers, exclusive primetime interviews, statues, etc....And aren't "attention to the issue" and "attention to Snowden" two different things??
I'm just saying that when I started poking holes in Snow-Wald's story and asking questions about his motivations, the universal response thrown in my face was "Stop attacking the messenger and making this about Snowden!!" As long as he continues to be exalted as a hero or icon, I am free to make my criticisms...

What 'holes' have you poked wrt to his motivations? I missed them. His motivations are clear and apparently a majority of the american people agree that he is a Whistle Blower, not a 'traitor' as some tried to claim.

I'm not quite sure how our constitutional rights are being defended when Snowden reveals England is spying on Argentina in their effort to protect the Falklands (just to cite his most recent leak)....
You ask for the holes I've punched in Snowden's official story? Have you not been reading my posts? They're all over DU for the past two years almost...Since I grow tired of repeating myself, the search function is in the upper-right corner of your browser -- Have fun and go crazy...
