"We have updated this monument to highlight those who sacrifice their safety in the fight against modern-day tyrannies," read a statement from the artists given to the website Animal New York.
Animal tagged along with the artists to film and photograph the stunt. The site gave TPM permission to publish two of the photos.
The bust, 4-feet tall and weighing about 100 pounds, was planted on top of one of the four columns surrounding Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Fort Greene Park. The memorial was built in tribute to Revolutionary War soldiers buried near the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
....
On the base of the column, the artists attached the letters, "SNOWDEN." They named their work, Prison Ship Martyrs Monument 2.0, according to Animal.

(45,984 posts)We don't go to war to defend the nation from attack; the war party doesn't even get to say that when they attack nations that had nothing to do with any attack on us.
We don't go to war to spread democracy; the war party doesn't even get to say that when they rig elections and disregard universal human rights. What they do to the invaded country is even worse.
We go to war so that the rich may profit from having another nation's natural wealth handed over to them. The war party doesn't even get to deny that when the Iraqi government signed a deal to allow foreign development of their fields, as if the Iraqis themselves don't know how to development their oil industry.

Lucy, what happened? Fans want 'ugly' Lucille Ball statue replaced
(CNN)Some fans of Lucille Ball want her statue removed from a park in her hometown, saying the "ugly" likeness does not do justice to the "I Love Lucy" star.
The life-size bronze statue in Celoron, New York, has been likened to Conway Twitty, the snake from "Beetlejuice" and actor Steve Buscemi, among other unflattering comparisons. Even Mayor Scott Schrecengost has gone on record saying he does not care for the statue, which shows the comic star holding a bottle of fictional nutrition elixir Vitameatavegamin.
And yet, it has been a tourist draw since 2009 for Celoron, the comedian's birthplace, attracting visitors who pose with the statue for pictures.
A resident of Jamestown, where Ball grew up, started the Facebook page in 2012 "We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue," seeking to get rid of the "ugly" statue. A story about the group on Yahoo! News this week spread through the internet, reviving debate over what to do with the statue.

(1 post)This act, sculpture, and video are mind bending to me. But it's only the first step.
Imagine a real bronze bust and an official site. A monument to both free speech, resistance and the rule of law.
The artist's have done some of the heavy lifting in making the first one. They have the molds to make to a bronze one, and it would be relatively simple, requiring
1) funds
2) site
1) Kickstarter campaigns regularly raise more than a million dollars. Having a permanent memorial to someone the government is currently prosecuting as a criminal would be mind blowing, and also send a strong message to the government, that there are significant numbers of people who are not in agreement with building a secret police state. I'll provide $500 and then all it takes is another 1999 individuals or so depending on contribution size. This shouldn't be all that hard.
My first google for poll numbers found this: from June, 2013
A slight majority (44% to 42%) believe Edward Snowden was right to leak the information to the press.
So maybe lets say the people that feel strongly about it are 5% of that number, so around 4 million people.
2) Site
This is a bit tricky as the feds are sure to be grumpy about a Snowden memorial. There must be few towns in the US that would love to have one:
Berkeley CA
Cambridge MA
Bennington VT
Some place in the "live free or die state"
Great tourist attraction for a small place no doubt.
