United States President Barack Obama will maintain a tight itinerary during his visit to Jamaica this week.
According to Jamaican Government spokespersons, Obama, who is scheduled to arrive at Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston late Wednesday evening on Air Force One, will be airlifted on one of the helicopters in the presidential Marine One fleet to the Jamaica Defence Forces Up Park Camp headquarters, from where he will be transported to the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in one of the 12 limousines in the presidential fleet.
The following morning Obama will journey to the Office of the Prime Minister at Jamaica House where he and his delegation will hold bilateral talks with the Jamaican Government.
His next assignment will be a meeting with Caricom heads of government at the University of the West Indies, Regional Centre, Mona, after which he will hold a youth town hall forum at the UWI Assembly Hall.
The US presidents final engagement in Jamaica will take place at National Heroes Park where he is scheduled to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph, the monument erected in honour of the thousands of Jamaicans who died in World Wars I and II.
After that, Obama will return to Up Park Camp from where he will be airlifted back to Norman Manley International for his flight to Panama to attend the Seventh Summit of the Americas.

(26,877 posts)Jimmy told me that, as they were jogging on the treadmills, the TV showed PBO speaking and the President said to Jimmy, "Don't listen to that guy, he doesn't know what he's talking about..." True story!

(269,157 posts)We've had lovely afternoon rain for the past two weeks so Kingston is green and pretty.
And look what burst into bloom last week - and is very visible on his route and on campus

(26,877 posts)I'm on the end (I hope) of the worst winter in my memory (I'm in NYS and I'm just shy of 50) and those photos are what I've been pining for for months! Good news is, I'm heading south this coming weekend (Myrtle Beach) and my shorts and sandals are on deck!

(12,233 posts)If you have a chance to take any "day trips", heading down to Charleston is really quite lovely. Yes, you have to drive through stinky ole' Georgetown, SC, but other than that, its an easy trip and downtown Charleston is amazing this time of year.

(26,877 posts)And, the sweetgrass basket stands still line US 17!
And, yes Georgetown is quite stinky with the paper mills. But they have a Bojangles (I am CRAVING dirty rice)!

(12,233 posts)And the old steel factory is so polluted that our boat captain would take the boat down to the area outside of the steel mill, anchor it for 2 or 3 days, and it would kill all of the barnacles off the boat for him.

(86,780 posts)I have awoken to a few inches of new snow the past several mornings and I'm ready for spring flowers and dandelion greens salad. Planted a bunch of seeds for my garden yesterday, when the weather permits they'll go outside. For now every horizontal surface in my cabin has trays of starter cups.
Now I have to go look at LOL Cats.

(269,157 posts)I'm looking forward to my 'glads' this year. The anthuriums are blooming already.
Yesterday I picked up half a dozen lovely Easter lilies for about US$3.00.

(86,780 posts)I bought some Dahlia bulbs last week and am thinking they will need to be potted plants. We have weird soil and a very short season as well as elevation issues... can't grow tomatoes very well unless they are in a greenhouse. I did get a small 5X6' temporary thing recently but I have to wait for the snow bank to melt next to the cabin where I want to put it, still have about a foot of icy stuff to go away. Forecasts indicate it will be really nice next week, can hardly wait for that.
He is such a great guy.

(269,157 posts)We never do the 'wavey' thing, but I'm really excited to see Oman in the flesh.
What if he comes over and greets us. I may faint for the first time in my life
I am quite excited.

(86,780 posts)back after his first election and my boss and his kids got to visit with him and Biden when he came a year or two later. I hope you get really close and maybe even get a handshake or a hug... I've seen pictures of him giving hugs to regular folks! If you start to swoon, fall in his direction, he'll catch you!

(50,304 posts)This has been the longest winter I can ever remember in the northeast . . . and I'm old. It's frigid and there's not even a sign of a daffodil starting to break through the ground. Very depressing. Jamaica is calling my name. I hope someday to meet the POTUS. I figure my best bet is after he's out of office and campaigning for someone else in NH. In any case, I'm jealous of your chance to see the POTUS and your flowers!

On campus the standard line was you'd better prepare for finals when the poui starts to bloom.
Obama is coming to our campus - this is too delish!!!
If you think you're jealous you should hear my siblings all of whom live in the US except big sis.
