(115,869 posts)and that there was just a "misperception." Now the baggers are going to be pissed off because he insisted that the law does not give businesses the right to deny services to LGBT people - but it sure as hell does, as written, and that's exactly what they did intend. He says it mirrors the federal law, but that's a lie. The federal RFRA was designed to prevent the government from impinging on the religious practices of minority groups, particularly Native Americans, but the language of the Indiana statute does give private businesses the right to deny services on the basis of a claimed religious belief.

(115,869 posts)proudly standing there while he signs it? If the bill was drafted and/or supported by rabidly anti-gay people and organizations, how can he claim it was never intended to discriminate? That was its entire purpose, since religious freedom is otherwise covered quite nicely by the First Amendment.

(25,272 posts)Say Clinton did it. Say Obama voted for it in Illinois. Say the Hoosiers are the greatest people in the world. Say that the Hoosiers are offended by the publicity that this has gotten. Say that it is the fault of the press and reporting.
If there is a federal law on the books - that Clinton signed into law - why does Indiana have to have their own law?

(19,568 posts)I'm as unimpressed now as I was when I heard it before. He's still a liar and a bigot.
If you're going to be a bigot at least be honest and admit you're one. Don't pretend it was an accident when your ass gets called out for your bigoted actions. The largest businesses in your state saw this coming, the said this would happen and they opposed this law for that reason. But you never knew this was a possibility? Liar.

(11,101 posts)are just two of many companies that came out publicly against the bill before it was passed, even testifying against it in hearings. These loons take their marching orders from the Koch Brothers/ALEC not the people and businesses of Indiana.

(95,337 posts)but the rest of us aren't.
This bill is NOT like the other 19 bills or the one passed by Bill Clinton.
This has been debunked to death.
The entire world knows it yet Pence keeps denying it thinking if he repeats it enough time the rest of the world will go stupid and believe him.
We won't.
Change the law.

His press conference was all about BS CYA. No way did he redeem his law and discrimination in our eyes.
