http://www.indystar.com/story/news/2015/03/30/pence-wall-street-journal-abhor-discrimination/70697812/Gov. Mike Pence on Monday penned an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal regarding Indianas Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).
Excerpts, provided in a news release from his office, can be found below. The full version will appear in Tuesdays edition.
... As governor of Indiana, if I were presented a bill that legalized discrimination against any person or group, I would veto it. Indianas new law contains no reference to sexual orientation. It simply mirrors federal law that President Bill Clinton signed in 1993.
Some express concern that Indianas RFRA law would lead to discrimination, but RFRA only provides a mechanism to address claims, not a license for private parties to deny services. Even a claim involving private individuals under RFRA must show that ones religious beliefs were substantially burdened and not in service to a broader government interest which preventing discrimination certainly is. The government has the explicit power under the law to step in and defend such interests.

Some of the reader comments at the Star are quite good:
Mike Pence must believe that the rest of America is as stupid as he is. If he so abhors discrimination then why did he invite the leaders of the 3 most anti-gay hate groups to literally surround him while he was signing SB101, his crowning achievement? The sound of his actions has drowned out the words that he has spoken today.
Governor Pence, "insanity" is often defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Continuing to call the rest of America stupid for not understanding your law is NOT the way to win us over. The next words out of your mouth should be an apology and then your vow to repeal the law and add LGBT as a protected status for the entire state of Indiana.
Abhors discrimination? Perhaps he could explain why he's spent years trying to deny gays the right to marry. He has become a talking head without heart. He's really pathetic and should just stop embarrassing himself.
Gov. Pence: "It simply mirrors federal law that President Bill Clinton signed in 1993. ----> That's not true, and Gov. Pence knows it. In reality, the new Indiana law differs substantially from the federal RFRA, and other states' laws.
I can't believe he has not been given new material. Repeat after me, it is NOT a mirror of the federal bill, it is NOT a mirror of the federal bill. Seems someone just can't tell the truth.

(23,664 posts)But that's the only explanation I can come up with for why he willingly stuck his johnson in the pickle slicer and signed this law. He thought it would make him a hero to the mouth breathers and maybe it did, but this is where the business community parts company with the dum dum demographic.
His standing among the big money wing of the republican party is now lower than whale shit on the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The Koch Bros wouldn't touch him with a 20 foot pole. All he has left is the religious nut jobs and they're dying off.
