This, just exemplifies just how stupid TPTB are in Indiana. And if not that, then how much they want discrimination under the law.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/30/indiana-anti-gay-law_n_6969286.html
"I don't think anyone anticipated that the characterization of the bill would be, this denies to services to a specific class to Hoosiers. It does just the opposite. It includes all Hoosiers in the religious freedom standard. And it's a misperception that it denies services," said Indiana state House Speaker Brian Bosma (R) during a Monday morning press conference with Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R).
Long acknowledged that the GOP-controlled legislature did not work with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights groups on crafting the language of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act because the lawmakers didn't think the bill would affect that community.
"The reason we didn't is because this law doesn't discriminate against anyone," he said. "If we thought it did, we would have dealt with that. We don't believe it does."
That denial is hard to believe. Last year, Arizona's legislature passed a similar piece of legislation. But after national backlash, particularly from businesses concerned about how the law would affect LGBT individuals, then-Gov. Jan Brewer (R) vetoed it. LGBT groups have consistently been sounding the alarm on these so-called "religious freedom" bills as well, warning that they open the door to widespread discrimination where businesses could deny service to same-sex couples.
There were also people in Indiana warning of the consequences before the legislation became law. Even Indiana's Republican mayor said it would send the "wrong signal" for the state. Gen Con, which has been called the largest gaming convention in the country, also threatened to stop holding its event in Indiana if RFRA became law.
And many of the proponents of the law specifically cited discrimination against same-sex couples as the reason the legislation was so important.

(12,504 posts)what specifically was suppose to be accomplished by this law, and perhaps what incidents percipitated the law to even be written. They keep telling us what the law wasn't suppose to do. Almost always a law comes into play because it's designed to stop or start something because of specific and recurring incidents. It's rare now-a-days that new laws are enacted becasue a serious issue has never come up.

(3,183 posts)I keep seeing supporters of the law say that nobody understands the law. The people saying this keep failing to tell us what the law is supposed to accomplish.

(67,112 posts)discriminate. It could be they don't understand the definition of discrimination, but I doubt that, and clearly they do understand the definition of hatred and what they wanted to accomplish.

(48,955 posts)Calling for the Legislature to make LGBT a protected class. He (and the city-county council) are concerned that this law could be used to discriminate against Indy citizens by trumping the city ordinance. He has also said that any entity receiving money from the city must follow the city's human rights ordinances.
Oh - and he said what Pence couldn't: Discrimination is wrong.

(14,040 posts)Amazing the Mayor has a better PR team than the Governor.
Also, I'm happy he's urging the legislature to make LGBT citizens a protected class. Anyone in the legislature claiming they didn't know this would be perceived as a pro-discrimination bill is lying because people outside their legislature approached them and said as such. That's why the clarification was asked for, and denied by the Republicans.

Not a weasel or a moron like we have come to expect in the teaparty GOP.

(12,530 posts)He needs to be made to understand that the entire freaking internet knows he's a liar. State Dems tried adding amendments that would have afforded some protections. The Republicans rejected this.
There's no crab-walking out of this one. There's no innocent explanation. And there's no explaining this away. These motherfuckers own this law, and they can live or die with it.
