Arkansas governor wants to ban California wine because of their egg-laying law

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/03/27/1373809/-Arkansas-governor-wants-to-ban-California-wine-because-of-their-egg-laying-law

The Arkansas House voted a bill up to their Senate today.

The House voted 57-19 to advance to the Senate a bill that outlaws wine imports from any state that imposes a "substantial burden" on the Arkansas agriculture industry. The Secretary of the Arkansas Agriculture Department would determine what is burdensome under the bill. The Director of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division would be able to sanction or revoke a license of a business that broke the law.

Republican Rep. Dan "I'm none too bright" Douglas of Bentonville, Arkansas, believes that California's 2008 egg-laying law is a slight to Arkansasians. As a result he wants Arkansas to ban Californian wine—you know, like retribution.

Douglas previously said he wrote the bill primarily to send a strong anti-regulation message to California legislators. The bill targets only wine imports, he said, because California exports lots of wine.

There is, of course, the slight matter of the interstate commerce clause. You know, the Constitution.

Oh, and it's "Arkansawyers", not "Arkansasians". I've heard "Arkansans" before, but not that one.

Then again, I haven't seen an actual "wino" in years; I guess they all switched to Four Loko and Pit Bull Malt Liquor.

I will drink NO product from Modesto, California. Rule of thumb: If it's made in Modesto, there is a 99.99% chance it's a Gallo product.

Gallo makes their own glass bottles, part of their vertical monopoly, so I was surprised to see they even ventured into boxed wine.

In the early eighties I helped developed a wine bladder for an Australian wine conglomerate that was competing against another Australian outfit that pioneered the wine in a box thingy. We built the machines that made them, including the machine that installed the valves; the actual cardboard boxes were made locally. We sold the machines to them but continued to sell them our patented valves (cash cow) manufactured in California.

Arkansas maintains the three-tier system of alcohol distribution, and dimes to donuts the top tier distributes for the antiquated system are Fat Cat republicans. Can you say, "Cut of you nose to spite your face"?
