Bill moves forward in Indiana to allow breeding deer for the sole purpose of being hunted.

The state Senate's top Republican has relaxed his hold on a bill that would legalize hunting of farm-raised captive deer in Indiana.

The Senate Natural Resources Committee will hear House Bill 1453 at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Last year, the committee overwhelmingly passed a similar bill. If that happens again on Monday, it sets the stage for a definitive vote in 2015 on whether the controversial practice of high-fence hunting will become officially legal in Indiana.

Last year's bill failed to advance in the full Senate by just one vote.

We have just become the capitol of being warm and welcoming for BIGOTS!

We have just learned of a major AIDs breakout in a single county - and that unlike other states we had long ago banned needle ban. After ignoring the growing (but outside of that county - not covered/spoken about) crisis - the Governor stepped in to override the ban (which I appreciate, but - wth?!)

Now one more piece of legislation that shows that somewhere after voting for Obama in 2008 (That was so hopeful as one who lives here), we slid back into the 1950s. I have expect some reincarnation of Joe McCarthy to run for retiring Sen. Dan Coates (very conservative in the 1990s sense - but now almost moderate compared to the GOP in the senate)

This is the least of the issues - but in a two day span I feel like my head is exploding hourly!

Thanks for letting me vent!

Anybody who eats factory farmed meat or dairy products doesn't have any ethical ground to stand on.

I have no idea why anyone would think this kind of hunting was "fun," but it's probably better that those who do are confined to a fenced-in property rather than out loose wherever, shooting at whatever, in the open wild.

My cattle ranching relatives have no love for most urban and suburban long-weekend-and-holiday "hunters."

But at the end of the day, the meat these hunters take home is little different than "free range" chicken or eggs, or "grass fed" beef or milk.

I myself am mostly vegetarian, my wife is entirely vegetarian, but we don't expect the same from our dogs.

In the true wilderness I'm not going to cry when the wolves or mountain lions eat Bambi. That's what wolves and mountain lions do.

Like it or not, humans are omnivores, and hunting is part of our evolutionary and cultural heritage.

I spite of my given name, I don't hunt. There are simply too many people on this earth for the "natural" world to support us. But I'll bet I would if the children of my immediate family and community were hungry. That's the best reason to support both birth control and food programs. When many people are hungry, humans eat EVERYTHING.
