An important post by greatlaurel which puts things in perspective about Steel Valley teachers.

While the post blaming teachers keeps getting more and more hits, the one explaining and defusing is getting little attention.

Thanks, greatlaurel.

Steel Valley SD School Board try to deflect blame to teachers after the removal of SpecEd restroom

I hope some take time to read it and see just how easily teachers are blamed for things out of their control.

And give it a kick for presenting both sides of a serious story about special education.

When the first post about this issue appeared, I just knew there had to be a much bigger back story that was going unreported. Every teacher I have met would go out of their way to help a child with an issue like this, so I knew there had to be something more going on in that school district.

I wish people would exercise their critical thinking skills more. My biggest disappoint was the failure of the people in the disability community to dig into this issue a lot deeper. Teachers and the advocates for the disabled are natural allies and should have each others backs.

Thank you for your efforts to alert people on DU about the phony "education reform" movement. Even if I do not post on all your threads, I do try to read as many as I can. They are always informative.

So here's a kick hoping someone will rec her thread again and see how twisted reformers can make things sound.
