The days before the EPA (link to slideshow)

I started working in those mills in 1971. That Clark Avenue Bridge ran over the Cuyahoga River, which caught fire a couple of years earlier. Although the mills screamed to high heaven that pollution controls would put them out of business, you could see the gradual improvement over the years.

After a while you could even catch....and eat...fish caught there.

Damned Big Gubbmint can't get nothing right!
