Chris Christie Calls Tax Revenue From Legal Marijuana 'Blood Money'

N.J. Gov. Chris Christie (R) described taxes on legal marijuana as "blood money" and said that states that legalize the drug "put the lives of children and citizens at risk" for financial gain, the Asbury Park Press reported Thursday.

"I've had many taxpayers at town hall meetings who will ask me about, why not legalize marijuana to make the taxes go a little higher?" Christie said during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a New Jersey drug-treatment facility Wednesday. "To me, that's blood money."

Christie said he would not "put the lives of children and citizens at risk to put a little more money into the state coffers." He added that "every bit of objective data" shows that marijuana is a "gateway drug."

"It is not an excuse in our society to say that alcohol is legal, so why not make marijuana legal," he said. "Why not make heroin legal? Why not make cocaine legal? You know, their argument is a slippery slope."

"put the lives of children and citizens at risk ... "

How about shutting down the busiest bridge in America? And that caused
a massive traffic jam which slowed up emergency vehicles trying to get
people who needed help?

If we had a real liberal media people like Christie would see the light of day.

Why isn't alcohol illegal?
Why isn't tobacco illegal?
Why isn't coffee illegal?

Someone will get really hurt...

Really, really hurt...

Like rip off their lips with pliers, drag them behind a dune buggy by their short and curlies, and then falcon punch them off a skyscraper into a wood chipper...

There's nothing wrong with coffee. NOTHING!!!

Violence and alcohol are linked, so why tax alcohol? Is the blood spilled from alcohol an acceptable thing?

hailed as a solution to the jailing-of-youth crisis. Christie seems to have blinders on, along with so many others. The problem is not the kids! But Christie believes that a "half prison" solves the terrible incarceration statistics "police schools" have brought youth. ("police schools" being similar to "police state&quot

12. And all the Lobbying money from Pharmaceutical Companies getting rich off Opiate Painkillers??

The biggest problem with drug addiction in this country today is addiction to opiates including prescription painkillers. And when the lifeline to the legal painkillers get cut-off people then turn to the illegal opiates like heroin.

How many thousands of people have died of heroin because they first started on opiate painkillers and how many of them started because a doctor prescribed opiate painkillers to them for something random. Hell my doctor wanted to give me opiate painkillers for arthritis but then she offered option #2 (injections for my knees and lose the damn weight - I picked that one and a year later working fine).

So you know, since I haven't heard of too many people dying of marijuana addiction I hardly see that as blood money.

Christie - you're an ass
