Nothing confusing, no mystery. Both are being directly threatened with annihilation by ISIS. freshwest Mar 2015 #3

but the logical reason to root for the iranians is that they don't ethnically cleans non-muslim minorities like the Saudis do. Women do have to cover up both cultures but the iranians don't arrest women for walking the streets with no male relative like the Saudis. They don't deny them the right to drive. Nor do they deny them the right to see male doctors when ill or get an education from a male instructor with male students in the room. I wish the administration would drop the moderate opposition fantasy in Syria. McCain and his neocon supporters, lost the elections and they should not be pandered to.

We don't have to choose one nation over the other. But the USA has no reason to let ISIS get their way. They've threatened us as well, but we are not on the border with them, while Iran and Saudi Arabia are.

Unless you were making a joke or asking a rhetorical question, I hope you take my post as a perspective worth moment's thought. You may have already realized we're not interested in their wars except how it affects us in the West.

As mahina said, let's root for peace. We're not rooting for either side in the same way. Iraq has been overrun by ISIS and the government needs help from those with the most to lose, and closest to them historically, Iran.
We've said they can work on this and we won't stop them.

Saudi Arabia has Yemen to deal with right now, and likely fears the threats from ISIS to blow up Mecca, which would unseat their position in world Islam they want badly to maintain.

ISIS has no use for any of the sects in SA, unless they agree with the Wahabists. They've already announced they'll kill the Iranians for being Shia. Just as they have declared death upon a lot of others.

As for us, we can try to get both to continue to resist ISIS for their own good and ours.
