My tooth-grinding habit was not helped by listening to NPR this morning

The featured story was about the economic devastation to a Texas town after a prison riot forced the closure of the institution that had been virtually its only source of income. Interviews with people determined to "get our prisoners back" for the good of the bottom line. The whole focus was on what a great source of moolah private prisons can be and what a tragedy it is if they go away.

You would have thought the town's orphanage had burned down.

These people need to move and start a new life. The goal for society should be to close all prisons. Not open new ones.

Thanks NPR.

Last night on PBS, Nova was all about the Bible, paid for by a Koch brother.

Getting pretty wingy out there.

I only saw the last 20 min. of it. It seemed to be fairly objective from what I've heard about Bible history. I cant figure out why the Kochs are financing science docs and museums so much. Maybe their goal is to get control of it to insert their agenda.

4. NPR peddling RW memes to independents is WORSE than Fox.

Fox's greatest accomplishment was to shift the Overton Window so far to the right that NPR shills private prisons and the TPP.

and GWB installing people at the top sealed the deal.

7. If it was the main source of jobs in town, I can understand why they felt that way;

but there'd still be jobs if it were a public prison.

so I wonder if the private corp wasn't doing a bit of PR here...

9. There would almost certainly be MORE jobs. Private prisons are notorious for cutting staffing

far beyond what safety, the law or even common sense would permit.
