Ted Cruz’s Hometown Paper Really Does Not Like Ted Cruz

By Betsy Woodruff

Breitbart News might be charmed and delighted by Sen. Ted Cruz and his family, but the new presidential candidate’s hometown paper is not.

“Ted Cruz has every right, as best we can tell, to run for president, even though he was born in Canada to a Cuban father,” the Houston Chronicle editorial leads off.

“We’re happy he's the first of several potential candidates with Texas ties,” the paper’s editorial board continues. “We're not so happy about his disdain for 30 million Texans he was elected to represent just a couple of years ago.”

It has not always been this way. The Chronicle, which tends to lean left, actually endorsed Cruz in the general election of his 2012 Senate race, dubbing him “one of the shooting stars of the 2012 election season” and praising him for being “thoughtful, energetic, and dynamic.” But the paper withdrew its imprimatur during the partial government shutdown in 2013, saying Cruz had become “part of the problem.” That editorial drew national coverage, and the board then wrote a follow-up blog post clarifying that it wasn’t technically un-endorsing the senator, just very, very annoyed at him.

I don't expect him to be the GOP nominee but my big hope we can dump him out of office as our senator. He is useless and he needs to understand he isn't cute.

If he decides he's going to get crushed in the primaries he will likely withdraw
It seems nothing sours the electorate more than a loser
Bachman's negatives went up after her attempt at the Republican nomination in 2012.
Friends of mine in the Twin Cities think she decided not to run in 2014 cuz she thought she'd lose

says a lot. FINALLY FINALLY !!! SOME people in the GOP have found cliff they won't follow the Tparty lemmings over. I used to think that Teddy Cruz was dangerous, but he's such an ass-hat, everyone is laughing at him. Oh sweet Jesus, save me from the Southern Baptists, who think that freedom means you can do whatever you like any where, any way, and to any one.

But the Houston of the former progressive era in has gone batshit. The last straw was that NRA convention with the Obama and Ex zombie (girlfriend or wife, I forget) target dummies. Glad my family didn't live to see it or the OC crowd being azzes.

The decline began with Reagan and the televangelists, as the heat and humidity kept a lot of people indoors with the evil eye as rightwinger became media dominant. The Houston Chronicle was known as more liberal next to the Houston Post. There was the Hobby Family involved, if they are part of the current Hobby Lobby, IDK.

When Bush ousted Governor Ann Richards is when things went to hell, then they began exploring the different GOP pits there and prounounced them fit for mental habitation. It's now a mix of liberals being hunted down like dogs as Rush called for and people who'd have formerly been dealt with as the dangerous criminals they really are in the name of Freedumb.

It's possible a Castro on the Presidential ticket might pull the majority out of the fascist nightmare there. But it'll be a tough slog as journalists who lean to the progressive side have been blackballed. Fox is the main news source, outside of Infowars which is just Koch Bircher spew on steroids.

if he's crushed in the primary, by Republicans, it could well be the end of the Tea Party itself. I believe the 2016 GOP primaries are going to be a hoot. We thought 2012 was a clown car? Ha! 2016 is shaping up to be an even worse fight. I'm going to lmao watching it. Should be fun! LOL

It's a Hearst paper, which means right wing.

The Chron ate the Post some years ago. For a long time, the Chron always endorsed Republicans and they tended to lose in national elections, and some lost in the local elections. The judiciary in Harris County has been dominated by Republicans for some time.

I worked for Eileen O'Neill who was a civil district court judge. She heard the trial of Planned Parenthood of Southeast Texas, etal. v. Operation Rescue, et al. back in 1994. Because of her presiding over that trial, and the fact that the plaintiffs won, she lost the next election and was replaced by an anti-abortion nut who insisted on posting the Ten Commandments in his courtroom.

Every time I had to be in the same room as the Operation Rescue nuts, I felt like I got Post-traumatic Stress from being around them because they were quite scary.
