really.
and! dude compared Hitler to a LOCUST? that AIN'T normal.
edit: no! he compared OBAMA to a locust (i think)...however Churchill made the speech in 1936.
i think Gohmert has some competition for the King of Stupid here.

"The world is growing ever more dangerous, and our defense spending is wholly inadequate to confront the danger," Cotton said. "To be exact, during the last four or five years, the world has grown gravely darker. We have steadily disarmed, partly with a sincere desire to give a lead to other countries and partly due to the severe financial pressure of the time. But a change must now be made. We must not continue longer on a course in which we alone are growing weaker while every other nation is growing stronger."

He continued: "I wish I could take credit for those eloquent but ominous words, but I cannot. Winston Churchill sounded that warning in 1933 as Adolf Hitler had taken power in Germany. Tragically, Great Britain and the West didn't heed this warning, when they might have strangled that monster in his crib. Rather they let the locust continue to eat away at the common defense."

not like me to miss a dog whistle like that...makes a whole lot of sense!

A new trawl through the archives shows Cotton wrote a review for the Harvard Salient, the university's conservative political journal, of America in Black and White by Stephan and Abigail Thernstrom. The thesis of the book seems to be that Democrats refuse to accept how much better life is for black people today (read: in the late '90s) than in the pre-war era.

hello? earth to Cotton? don't come back!!
good.freaking.grief, they are idiots. HE WENT TO HARVARD!!!

He continued: "I wish I could take credit for those eloquent but ominous words, but I cannot. Winston Churchill sounded that warning in 1933 as Adolf Hitler had taken power in Germany.

---

Churchill called 1934 and 1935 "The Locust Years" because time which should have been spent preparing to face Germany was fruitlessly eaten up. Churchill described the government's position as "...decided only to be undecided, resolved to be irresolute, adamant for drift, solid for fluidity, all powerful to be impotent. "

If we are going to have another WAR and a "rearmament", somebody has to PAY for it.
Do you think the Republicans are ready to raise taxes on THE RICH?

The suggestion that the American RICH would have to deal with the slightest discomfort
is repugnant to republicans (and Centrist Democrats).

Reagan and Dubya didn't feel any need to pay for their defense build up. Just spend the money and wait for a democrat to take office and blame the debt on them.

That seems to work with their base, why change it now.

...some bright Democrat should bring that up.
The fact that they do NOT talk about it is not very reassuring.

...and its complicated. It takes time to explain the correlation between the debt and the top marginal tax rate and it requires an audience that understands graphs.

Whereas repeating clichés is quick and appeals to 'common sense'. That's the battle that we need to fight, the battle that the democrats appear to be fighting is the battle of 'whoever has the biggest campaign chest wins'.

We need to have an information campaign that dissects republican talking points and points out the truth. Robert Reich's approach is probably the best example of what I think democrats should be doing. Documentaries, short clips debunking conservative talking points. I don't always agree with his conclusions, but I think he's on the right track.
