Former tribal judge arrested in Oklahoma on child sexual abuse, drug charges

EL RENO — A former tribal judge was arrested Tuesday on several complaints involving illegal drugs and sexual crimes against a child.

Former Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes Judge Lehman Coyote, 62, of El Reno, was arrested on 11 criminal complaints, including one count of rape of a child, seven counts of lewd acts against children, one count of child neglect, one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Canadian County sheriff’s office.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office began looking into allegations Coyote had been sexually abusing children after family members contacted the department in December 2014.

Family members alleged the molestation took place on multiple occasions both in Oklahoma and in several other states during vacations.

They handle minor disputes, and law violations. The tribal councils are the law of the land on reservations..
