How did I end up on the suckers list?

Yes, I contribute to a few organizations. But the way they exchange and sell lists I may just stop altogether.

Thus, I receive solicitations from every possible disease in the world. And today from the Southern Poverty Law Center. Yes, I am sure all of you promote worthy causes but, really! Worse. Even if I decide to, what the hell, will send them $10, this will mean that I am a "live" contact and the solicitations will multiply.

This year I have been keeping a pile of both the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. So far - five from the Red Cross, practically every other week, and 3 from the Salvation Army.

And, no, sending them money will not stop them. No, all of them, including PBS, send a new solicitation with their Thank You.

And the stream increases in April to get in on my "fat tax refund." I don't get a fat tax refund. I watch withholdings and payments to end up even - or close to it.

I have to wonder how the Democratic Party participate in this "exchange."

So am now trying a new approach, especially the ones with "no stamp is necessary." Use red pen and write across - please remove my name from your mailing list and send back. Will see.

OK, end of rant.

to any email you are sent that you don't want. You won't hear from them again. And then send your donations through the snail mail; that way, no one has your email address.

But I must take exception to Southern Poverty Law Center: as a donor there for many years, I know for one they do not barrage you with emails. I get maybe one a month from them, and even then sometimes it is just informational. They are a wonderful organization, and one of the few doing what they do. SPLC is one of the few organizations that is circumspect about its emails.

Political donations, on the other hand? Please, stop emailing me 40 times a day!

the only one that has my email is the Obama campaign with all its permutations. And I managed to get them to slow it down, except, of course, during special events.

I shudder to think of getting these solicitations via email..

They work for and deserve every dollar they get.
Here's a link to their donation page.

Not only is the work they do unique, but they are scrupulous about reporting back to you what they are doing with your donations. I'm a committed donor myself.
