By S.A. Miller - The Washington Times - Thursday, March 12, 2015
Sen. Elizabeth Warren hijacked a Senate committee hearing on recreational hunting, fishing and shooting Thursday to advance her crusade against big business, calling for new laws to expose the details of legal settlements between the government and corporations accused of wrongdoing.
Im going to press forward with this bipartisan proposal in this Congress because far too often the critical details of these settlements are hidden from the public, declared Ms. Warren, Massachusetts Democrat.
She defended her use of the venue a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing on the Bipartisan Sportsmens Act of 2015 by citing a provision in the bill that would create a public database of fees and awards that the government pays to environmental groups.
Republicans want more transparency when environmental groups challenge illegal government actions and win. But what about transparency when the government settles claims against corporations that break the law, she said.
Mrs. Warren, a liberal firebrand who is being prodded by the partys left wing to enter the 2016 presidential race, was pushing her legislation titled the Truth in Settlements Act, which was introduced last year but was blocked.

Washington Times often has a RW editorial slant to their stories. I like the story, just not the way its written.

(135,425 posts)If you are providing input at a meeting of a committee where you are a fucking MEMBER, you aren't "hijacking" shit. You're providing YOUR input, YOUR experience, YOUR point-of-view.
That's what she was ELECTED TO DO.
One more time--fucking WASHINGTON TIMES.
It was easier when we had a list of "verboten" sources--that piece of shit is unfit to wrap fish. It will NEVER give anyone a fair assessment of a Democrat.

I do think back in the 70's they might have had some intelligent reporters but talk about hijacking - right-wing crusaders and moonie zealots. Perhaps ISIS and the taliban would like to buy a share or two now.

(3,498 posts)Even Senator Warren would reject the "liberal" label.
She is simply a decent person doing what's right for the people!
And that's why the article uses biased descriptions of her.

In saner times she could have been mainstream, middle of the road maybe even as a Republican and matter of fact for a Democrat.
I've never got a coherent answer to the "too liberal" charge from anyone. I've got one pending, I'm not hopeful but I'll report back if it isn't stupid or talking but saying nothing.

(17,301 posts)They characterize her as a hijacker with a crusade against big business to expose the details of legal settlements. Note they say big business and NOT bankers and corporations. They make a point of telling us the settlements are legal. They call the cause of the corporate settlements wrongdoing NOT crimes.
And there is more bias language throughout the article. So much for any attempt at journalism. They really should just put this on the opinion page.
