Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsShould Democrats go on the offensive over this Tehran letter?
Shouldn't they look into the military court-martial rules in regards to Senator Joni Ernst, who is a Lt Col in Reserves? It's like she is doubly stupid - stupid for signing the letter as a Senator and more stupid for signing it as a military person.
Or should they just drop it and leave it to the media to report upon? We know how that will turn out, don't we? It will disappear into the woodwork.
Should they take the comments of John McCain and use them against the Republicans?
They had no idea there would be such a reaction to such a simple letter. Some thought it was just a "joke". I suppose others just wanted to send Obama a message?
They were like lemmings marching off the cliff. They never thought about it. They were only looking for political one-upmanship. They never thought about how it might weaken our country in the eyes of the world. They ignored our allies that were helping to negotiate a deal, the British, French, Russians, Chinese, and the Germans. The letter stabbed all of them in the back.
So, should Democrats forget about it? Or should they go/stay on the offensive?

(111,106 posts)in my opinion. The should brand each of these Senators as 1 of the 47. Republicans would use it like it was Benghazi. Don't let up on those dirty sons of bitches.

(33,688 posts)But when was the last time the Democratic Party truly went on the offensive about anything?
And with no one talking about it, the M$M propaganda machine will have it swept under the rug in a week or two.

Dems take the high road and get their butts beat.
I would love to see them do it.

(36,418 posts)Not a smart move by the 47 GOP Senators, but we shouldn't make too much of this.

(43,049 posts)and most of them probably won't understand the nuances surrounding the letter. It may be best for us to still be the adults in the room rather than start more nonsensical finger pointing.
So, probably best to leave it alone and just let it die-- unfortunately, it doesn't cause the simplistic reactions that a phony email scandal does.
However, if something terrible does result from this, point those fingers before they can explain it away. And there's always some way to use it in an election to embarrass the assholes.

(30,058 posts)I am somewhat surprised there was signatures from senators like McCain and McConnell, who should be leaders and not followers. McCain is claiming he did not read it and was in a hurry to leave, not a good excuse. I am wondering what dumb move they will make next.

No.
If you mean run ads anywhere and everywhere highlighting some of the choicer statements from the nation's editorial pages (and from some repubs who criticized the letter), darn tootin they should.

Let this be a Republican "unforced error".

However the President should go now TV during Prime time and tell America why nothing will be done.
But that wont happen either.

Never let it be said that Democrats didn't let a golden opportunity to do serious damage to the Teapublicans slide by unused.
