A Trade Campaign Built On Four Pinocchios
A newly launched public relations campaign in support of trade promotion authority, a.k.a. fast track, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) calls itself the Progressive Coalition for American Jobs. At its foundation is a set of misleading (at best) claims that begin with a four-Pinocchio whopper. It is unclear who is in the coalition, why they call themselves progressive when progressives are opposed to TPP and fast track, and flat-out wrong that the trade agreement is going to produce American jobs.

(24,692 posts)Where else have I heard that you can never trust, Obama? They say he is not a patriot; he lies all the time; he is only interested in power and money.

(6,145 posts)"Leveling the playing field" Sounds good right? What it really means is balancing our environmental and labor laws with countries like Vietnam and Brunei. Not so good.
"Competing and winning in the global economy" means US labor taking a pay cut in order to keep American manufacturers from moving overseas.
"Jumpstarting growth and creating jobs" means jumpstarting growth and creating jobs somehwere else.
The four pinocchios the Washington Post gave the adminstrations effort to sell this particular used car are richly deserved. They're serving a double-decker version of the very same shit sandwich the American public bought in the early nineties and they hope to god you don't remember.
