Bobby Jindal's approach to LA state budget is 'insane,' says Republican state legislator
State Rep. Jay Morris, R-Monroe, recently sent an email out to his supporters criticizing Gov. Bobby Jindal's approach to closing Louisiana's projected $1.6 billion budget gap, accusing the governor of being too beholden to a national anti-tax group.
"I'm no psychologist or psychiatrist but in my opinion what is going on as we approach session is insane. The insanity has its roots in the Governor's pledge to the Americans for Tax Reform (ATR), the taxpayer advocacy group based in Washington, DC headed by its founder, Grover Norquist," wrote Morris in a mass email.
Morris said administration officials made it clear during a Republican retreat last week the governor will not entertain efforts to rein in certain business tax credits if the plans don't meet the requirements laid out by the Americans for Tax Reform.
"The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR), in speaking to a group of legislators where I was present, plainly stated, in no uncertain terms, that the administration won't agree with any proposal which doesn't get the seal of approval from ATR and the Governor will veto any proposals that don't have the ATR's approval," wrote Morris in the email.
