"You Jews do not belong in South Africa"

Protesters including a government official shouted anti-Israel epithets and threats outside a pro-Israel event in suburban Johannesburg.

“You think this is Israel, we are going to kill you,” protesters from the Israeli Apartheid Week and Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement shouted outside the Zionist Federation South Africa-Israel Expo in Sandton on Sunday. Others shouted “You Jews do not belong in South Africa” and “no Zionist conference be held on our soil.”

This is a textbook example of how to discredit your allies and distract from your message. Any time I read or hear someone attempting to equate Zionism with all Jews, or the actions of the Israeli government as somehow reflecting on all Jews, I cannot give any credence to the speaker.

The Israeli government is guilty of many war crimes, in my opinion, but to state that all Jews bear the burden of these war crimes is simply another manifestation of anti-Semitism. Anyone in the BDS movement who uses this type of speech should be marginalized because to ignore the speech allows others to paint the whole BDS movement as anti-Semitic.

Precisely why the BDS crusade gets zero traction among anyone who means anything.
