Bill Clinton created nearly 28,000,000 jobs, Barack Obama will end up creating near 10,000,000 jobs

In the middle was George Bush who created 1,000,000 or so jobs in the same time period.

That's a powerful argument to take to the voters in 2016.

but the repugs and their money and media will overlook and disparage it, and Dems rarely take advantage of the FACTS that the economy always improves with Dem administrations; we clean up their messes ALL THE TIME.

It's spending that creates jobs -- consumer spending, government spending, doesn't matter. The best way to create jobs is to increase wages and taxes. Anyone who ever took a high school history class should understand this, but apparently expecting Republicans to function even on that level is asking too much of them.

But if the company pays higher wages, there would be less cash left over for the company to buy back its own stock, which would mean the CEO cant accumulate as much wealth. So obviously thats a problem....

I have even heard this as a legitimate complaint from smart democrats who are high up on the totem pole in their company... "we have to pay for top talent at the CEO level or we wont be competitive!"

Uh... can't you say the same damn thing about the pay levels for everyone working at the company???

This isn't "Obama's fault," of course. The GOP has stymied every initiative that would create jobs, and this is the result.

Here's a handy formula: When the jobs numbers come out and say, for example, "200,000 jobs created last month!!11!1!," you deduct 150,000 instantly because that's how many new people enter the workforce every month. In other words, 150,000 new jobs keeps the unemployment rate flat (when it isn't fiddled with to make it look better than it really is.) What's left is the net number of jobs that represent a dent in unemployment. In my example, that would be 50,000 new jobs.

The next thing to remember is that the Bush junta cost 8 million people their jobs. So, at the rate of 50,000 per month, it would take over 13 years to re-employ everyone who got the GOP shaft.

With a lower birthrate (understanding that its the birthrate of 18 years ago that matters at any given point) and with a higher retirement rate based on a generally older population, the number of new jobs needed to keep up with population growth is more like 90,000.

There are plenty of other calculation that might be made - such as the number of new jobs to reach an unemployment target in a given time period, or the number of new jobs to reach a labor force participation rate, but as far as what is needed to keep the unemployment rate and the participation rate flat while absorbing new population, its about 90,000 new jobs a month.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the population is increasing. Maybe you haven't noticed all those new neighbors that are showing up over the years. The benchmark I'm quoting is going up, not down. If anything, it's too low, especially if it's an "old number." But, Hey! By your reasoning, we needn't do anything and, after time, no new jobs will be required at all!!11!!!

I'm always concerned when Obama's jobs work has any negative spin. Unemployment is consistently DROPPING on his watch, jst did so again.

It's amazing how people want to redefine what unemployment now that certain leaders are responsible for its drop.

If you told somebody in the Spring of 2009 that unemployment would fall to 5.5% in the Spring of 2015 they would tell you that you are crazy.

How many of those job-holders require subsidies and food stamps in order to survive?
