Iranian nuclear talks: Will there will a deal?

WASHINGTON — Critics say the Obama administration is pursuing a dangerous approach in its nuclear negotiations with Iran, but some experts question whether there are any better alternatives.

The rhetoric is getting sharp. Just consider the five-minute video recently posted online by freshman Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb.

“This isn’t negotiating. This is getting your lunch money taken in an alley,” Sasse says of the president in the video. “We are going to look back on this as a watershed moment for American foreign policy. Allowing a terror-supporting, Israel-hating, American-troop-killing enemy of the U.S. to take a broader leadership role in the Middle East is foolishly shortsighted, and it’s a horrible betrayal of our allies in the region.”

Sasse sees the administration giving up too much in the talks — a view shared by many Republican colleagues, including several from Nebraska and Iowa.
