The Democratic Party is a political party - not a cult.

It isn't a single minded cult. Those that think it should be should form their own party, because the Democratic party isn't a cult, nor to we exist to serve a cult of personality.

Just remember that those demanding loyalty, are quite possibly the ones who ditched the democrats in 2008 after the primaries.

Then laugh.

and I wonder who on earth falls for such transparent ploys for loyalty above all else?

When someone tries to shame me, goad me, or push me to accept a candidate or a position that I do not agree with, I go into full-on dubious mode.

Creepy imo. This party is the country's only hope to keep us from republican rule, and right now it's doing a really lousy job of it. Time to think outside the box.

an Electoral College. Not the smartest idea from the past, but law nonetheless. I'll rephrase my decision knowing nothing about anyone demanding or even hinting at some loyalty oath or cult...this isn't the Promise Keepers, FFS.

There are two "groups" counted that actually elect the President. My vote will be in one of those two groups...as a Democrat. My vote will count.

I think I must have missed it.

I know the last one. In 2008, some very misguided souls started PUMA and were roundly and rightly condemned for it. At it's core, though, was a refusal to be loyal to the Democratic party's nominee.

Now people calling FOR party loyalty (or giving the impression of it) are being roundly condemned.

Here's my loyalty oath:

I'll support a yellow dog before any Republican.

The Democratic Party is a big tent, indeed. Are you implying that the "fifty shades of gray" and multiple cults of personality (Cruz, Perry, Walker, Santorum, Gingrich, Trump, Huckabee, Carson, etc., etc.) that characterizes the fractured and fragmented Republican party is a cult? The absence of an ideological core or prophet-like figure renders it little more than a collective of diffuse viewpoints loosely girded as the "political right."

No one should tell anyone who to vote for. I'm just sick of the 1% being all that matters in the "good ole USA" these days.

That said I also cant go to my grave with a clear conscience if I ever voted for a repub. They represent everything that is wrong with the nation today.

they are. A variety of lives and goals are okay with them. The GOP only wants the rich or the rare extremely lucky to succeed. They want everyone else to live quiet as mice in constant desperation all the while admiring their bosses who pay them as little as is possible. Yup. The GOP want Americans to be of one mind.
