Fox News issued a clarification on Friday on behalf of its star host Bill O'Reilly, saying that he said he'd "seen" bombings in Northern Ireland because police showed him photos of them.
The Washington Post spotted a passage in O'Reilly's 2013 book, "Keep It Pithy," in which he described seeing lethal bombings in Northern Ireland.
I've seen soldiers gun down unarmed civilians in Latin America, Irish terrorists kill and maim their fellow citizens in Belfast with bombs," O'Reilly wrote.
A Fox spokesperson told the Washington Post that OReilly did not witness any bombings or injuries in Northern Ireland but was simply shown photos by police officers.

No thanks, Bill O'Reilly has that covered, and he is an established liar for this decade.

(1,428 posts)No mention of the additional allegations of lying. No mention of the lame to non-existent responses. Just O'Reilly's original offer to debate/berate real journalists on his show and his ratings are going up. He also had some talking head on there babbling about it's an opinion show and he's a commentator.
Excuse me. When did lying become synonymous with opinion? Opinion is "I think the tax rate should be X and you think the tax rate should be Y". Falsifying your presence in combat zones and witnessing acts of extreme violence is straight up lying.
Fox News is a complete joke.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)He has claimed that he was shown photos of killed nuns in El Salvador, images that were not made available to the public. He claimed that other journalists were shown these as well.
Did that really happen, either?
Who showed him these photos? For what reason? When? Whom was he with? Can they corroborate that authorities or somebody displayed images of killed nuns to American journalists, including Bill O'Reilly?
Even this claim of having been show pictures is suspect, and should be investigated fully. He has consistently claimed that he "saw" these events. In ordinary language, that means to witness in person. Now he's saying he was merely shown pictures of these events, which few native English speakers (and I use the term loosely for Levittown, Lawn Guyland) would describe as "having seen," but do we know if even this minimalist version of "to see" is true?
Here's my take: I don't think it is. I don't think the original claim of having seen is true, and I don't think the weasel word claim of having been shown photographs is true. They're neither of them true. The man is a pathological exaggerator.
ZX86
(1,428 posts)His quote was, "I saw nuns get shot in the back of the head". As far as I know there is no photographic or video footage of the murders in progress. He may have seen crime scene photographs (which I seriously doubt) but no way did he see nuns get shot in the back of the head, in person or in photographs.

Al Franken outed his deceit in his political satire/facts 'Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them'. Page 75 in the first edition has the photo. He's a pathologic sociopath filled with hatred. Disgusting piece of sh*t too. I think it was this piece of evidence that really brought out the authentic madness of this nasty scumbag. Way to go Al!!!!

I seen a peanut stand, heard a rubber band
I seen a needle that winked its eye
But I be done seen 'bout ev'rything
When I see a elephant fly
(What d'you say, boy?)
I said when I see a elephant fly
I seen a front porch swing, heard a diamond ring
I seen a polka-dot railroad tie
But I be done seen 'bout ev'rything
When I see a elephant fly
(I saw a clothes horse, he r'ar up and buck)
(And they tell me that a man made a vegetable truck)
(I didn't see that, I only heard)
(But just to be sociable, I'll take your word)
(I heard a fireside chat, I saw a baseball bat)
(And I just laughed till I thought I'd die)
But I be done seen 'bout ev'rything
When I see a elephant fly
Well I be done seen 'bout ev'rything
When I see a elephant fly
(With the wings)
When I see an elephant fly
END VERSION:
(I seen a peanut stand, heard a rubber band)
(I seen a needle that winked it's eye)
ELEPHANTS:
Now I be done seen about ev'rything
When I see an elephant fly
(Oh my!)
CROWS:
When I see
When I see
When I see an elephant fly
(Look at him go)
When I see an elephant fly
(Happy landings, son)
(Yippee!)
When I see an elephant fly
I sure wish I'd a-got his autograph
(Oh man, I got his autograph)
Well, so long glamour boy!
Extra verses not used in the film:
I even heard a chocolate drop
I went into a store, saw a bicycle shop
You can't deny the things you see
But I know there's certain things that just can't be.
The other day by chance, saw an old barn dance
And I just laughed 'til I thought I'd die
But I think I will have done seen ev'rything
When I see an elephant fly

(10,303 posts)I'm going to do everyone a favor here. Bill O says that he has seen bombings in Northern Ireland. Your local evening newscasts in Northern Ireland weren't like anything you would see in the rest of the UK, as there were a fair number of bombings, explosions, and murders to report on.
Below is a YouTube link to a video where a person has compiled a number of news reports about The Troubles (early 1990s), most of which were from local newscasts. Be mindful that the video is a compilation mainly from a Unionist point of view - though mentions of "loyalist" terror attacks are included. Both BBC NI and UTV have always had to tread a delicate middle ground - UTV particularly had a schizophrenic presentation style - one minute dour and serious, the next minute introducing some light entertainment program.
So there you have it. You now witnessed a bomb going off, thanks to a UTV camera crew being at the scene of the murder of a female Army soldier. You're just as informed as Bill O and you've seen bombings and mortar attacks in Northern Ireland.
