Russia says Boris Nemtsov’s killing could be effort to make him a martyr — or a radical Islamic terror attack

Russia's top investigators say the brazen killing of popular dissident Boris Nemtsov may have been designed to make him a martyr, or a terrorist attack by radical Islamists.

Moscow's investigative body also proposed other theories for the 55-year-old charismatic leader's shooting death on Saturday: it was an effort to destabilize the country; that Ukraine was responsible; it has something to do with his 23-year-old girlfriend.

Not included in the Investigative Committee's statement was the fact that Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister during the 1990s, was one of President Vladimir Putin's most harsh and popular critics.
