If you are LGBT almost anywhere in the world, you live with the very real fear of becoming a statistic due to homophobic hate. That fear was sadly realized by a young lesbian couple in Limerick, Ireland. 20-year-old Rosin Prendergast and her partner, 17-year-old Ciara Murphy were brutally attacked by a group of men shortly after leaving their apartment. Luckily, they survived to tell the tale....

Unfortunately, the attack didn’t stop there. The women would receive far worse injuries, because after being shoved, the men threw the couple to the ground. Ciara says of that part of the violent attack:...

The assailants beat and kicked the women for about ten minutes, before stealing their hats as trophies, and then left. However, even after all of this, the assault was not over. Rosin says:...

When the violence finally ended, Ciara had lost consciousness, and Rosin was next to her, beaten and bloody. Luckily, passing good samaritans called paramedics, and the two women were rescued.

Sadly, GLBT still make "appealing" targets, and while some attitudes have changed, many have not, and simply "tsk-tsk" situations like this.
