Walker is leading a crowded field of potential presidential candidates in Iowa with 25% of likely Republican caucus-goers throwing their support to Walker in a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday. The Iowa caucus will be the first test for presidential hopefuls and while the last two GOP winners didn't get far in the primary process, the caucus is a crucial test of conservative credentials and can help signal some candidates off the campaign trail.

How many lead changes will the Republicants go through before they find their man or woman?

(99,710 posts)If she would have won IA we would be talking about whether Barack Obama would have the best chance of succeeding her in this election. Losing IA was for her a blow she could not recover from.

(36,063 posts)I don't think that's really what stood in HRC's way.
Mostly there was this guy who talked about people's issues and represented something very very different. Something that inspired a LOT of voters.
If you remember, HRC was still seeking the nomination long after IA, and she really was for quite some time the only alternative left vs Obama.
Fierce supporters gave calls to convention floor fights and a counter-current movement known as Party Unity My A@@.

(99,710 posts)She went on to receive 18,000,000 votes after that. That isn't chopped liver... But she never recovered after that.
In the end she didn't have a floor fight... There are revered Democrats who literally tried to get the Democratic rules committee to release delegates from their voting commitments and they didn't come into the convention with nearly as much strength as Hillary.

(36,063 posts)Obama clearly had tremendous appeal among democrats, that became obvious very early.
You'll have to provide something to show that her loss in IA turned the tide or I'm just going to believe from early on the idea of an Obama presidency was just more appealing to democratic voters.

(12,958 posts)I saw a guy work last week with a Scott Walker button pinned to his chest. He was walking around in the computing lab glancing down at the button every 3 or 4 seconds. Obviously he thought it was the coolest thing ever and he believed everyone was impressed by it.
He wore horn rimmed glasses and what could best be described as a Marine style haircut. He was wearing what I would call a patchwork quilt 'three piece suit'. I would guess he found his suit parts at three different thrift stores. It reminded me of something a late 19th century organ grinder would wear. To top off the ensemble, he was wearing old, beat up, white tennis shoes. The cheapie kind you get for $17.
His appearance was so throwbackish and clunky that next time I come across him, I will ask if I can take his picture under the guise of, 'that's the first Scott Walker button I've seen' and I am sure he will proudly agree, then I will post it here lol.
