Hey Chicagoans (and Rahm Haters). The Rahm issue makes this national news, at least for DUers, no?
For those of you not following along, the winner must get 50% +1 to avoid an April 7 run-off. The only real drama is whether Rahm will avoid the run-off. The closest of the group chasing him is probably Jesus "Chuy" Garcia. Have fun, homies!

Zeroes all around!
As for me, I voted early this morning, paper ballot.

(36,437 posts)We dont expect to reach that 42 percent or anywhere near it, said Chicago Board of Elections spokesman Jim Allen. For whatever reason, voter interest is not strong. Voter interest is what drives turnout, not weather, not sunshine. Were hoping for a little better evening rush.

(36,437 posts)It was a vote by ward, and it's expected to win big. It would, in theory, limit the Mayor's power when it comes to rigging the CPS system.
Votes coming in now...

(36,437 posts)Pawar is great!
Guy Whitey Corngood
(26,505 posts)what he's trying to do. Working within the system and getting along with the mayor. In the end I made that last minute decision at the booth.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)Couldn't abide that.
Guy Whitey Corngood
(26,505 posts)more attention. I let the whole "anti incumbent" fever get the best of me. Pawar may very well be a great alderman with say..... a Mayor García.... I know. I know. One can hope.

(36,437 posts)Mind you, Chuy was polling at 26% as recently as yesterday, with Rahm sitting at 48%. Looks like undecideds broke for Chuy. We may be heading toward a run-off.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)I'd have to say that a run-off is now very likely.

(26,505 posts)certain. Cant find anything online. Don't know for sure. Garcia's camp sounds confident.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)No way Rahm makes up 4.5% (+1) in the 30% of precincts left to report. He'd have to win precincts in the 70% range for that, and many of the North Side precincts where'd he'd hit that number have already reported.
Run off a virtual certainty at this point.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)With almost three quarters of the vote counted, turnout is unbelievable low at 24%. Will turnout break 30%? It will surely be a record low turnout.

alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)10th Ward has 29 of 36 precincts already reported. The others about the same, maybe a few less, proportionally.

(23,572 posts)it should have been a cake walk for him. People here REALLY don't like him.
Hoping all the candidates back Chuy. There's no way we can raise the kind of money he has. But, he can still lose.
alcibiades_mystery
(36,437 posts)Anything's possible, of course, but I'd be very surprised if Rahm's voters don't come out in droves for the runoff. But definitely a spanking tonight for Rahm. And placing way above polls for Chuy.

(36,437 posts)I'll stop with this, since everybody agrees that this is a runoff. The remaining results are moot and look to hold steady in any case.
