The media's "reality."

Somewhere back in the 1960s, a philosopher named Marshal McLuhan said, "The media is the message." He was close. But what he didn't foresee was Fox "news" which went on to prove that the media is nothing more than a "made up message". Fox broadcasts an alternate "reality" which is believed by about one third of American people.

Scary, ain't it? Absolutely terrifying that close to one third of the population of the United States believes the shit that is spewed out by Fox, (not to mention Limbaugh, et al). They believe what they are watching and/or hearing. They don't know it's propaganda. They don't know it's total just bullshit made up out of thin air. They actually believe it's reality.

Few here need to be told that the Koch Bros., Sheldon Adelson, the Saudi/Bush cartel, and a handful of other billionaires own this country and its politicians. But, unfortunately, most people still don't get that the media is part of the scam.

Every day of my life I hear people repeat/vomit the shit that Fox, Limbaugh, et al fed them.

Our current reality is that we can't stop the Kochs, or the others. They are a disease, and most intelligent people recognize them as such. So why are we tolerating it? How do we stop them? Can we stop them? Beats me. Please post all suggestions and/or disagreements with what I've said here.

it is probably impossible to stop the Kochs, the Turd Wayers and the rest of the New Fascists at this point. The brainwashing and dumbing-down has been going on so pervasively for so long that it can no longer be rolled back. The only thing to do at this point is ride it out, which will probably take a lot longer than the lifetimes of most on DU, including me.

We are too far down the rabbit hole to go back unless there is a planetary catastrophe, and even that is no guarantee of sanity coming back into fashion any time soon.

I can't disagree. Sigh.

Hopefully, Hopefully, a generation, not too far in the future, will see the an end to the Huns and a new Renaissance.

Walked away from it years ago.

I have no idea what's on television tonight, or what will be in tomorrow's newspapers or "talk" radio, not even NPR or PBS.

Life for me is better this way.

I don't pay much attention to whatever is going on at the shopping mall. Every couple of years I duck in and duck out. Many people trying to sell me stuff I don't need. A grand parade of uselessness.

I can plant a single seed in my yard and grow pumpkins. Another seed tomatoes. Nothing money bought beats that sort of magic.
