Joe Strupp at Media Matters got yet another of Bill OReillys former colleagues from CBS News to talk about the Fox News hosts alleged combat situation coverage in Buenos Aires during the Falklands War, calling his description of his reporting absurd.
Even back then, OReillys colleagues thought he was grandstanding. From Media Matters:
Charles Krause, a CBS News correspondent from 1980 to 1983 who reported from Buenos Aires during the same period as OReilly, is the latest to contradict the Fox News host. In an interview with Media Matters, Krause called OReillys descriptions of his reporting absurd.
He also recalls OReilly being there for a short period of time and not having any significant role in our coverage of the war.
I dont recall him doing any major story that anybody remembers and he was there a very short time, then he was recalled, I dont know why, Krause said. He wasnt a team player and people thought he was grandstanding, basically.

Fox News Stops Pretending To Be A News Network By Standing Behind Bill O'Reilly
Fox News isn't even pretending anymore. Their pretense of journalism has been shattered by Fox News's decision to stand formally behind war coverage liar Bill O'Reilly.

(16,286 posts)O'Reilly could go on live TV
shoot in the head 100 infants lined up in a row
then look at the camera and say "I didnt do that"
or
"These were liberal babies who would have grown up and voted for liberals"
The SAME people who watch him would STILL watch him, in fact his audience would GROW
Fox has NO INTENTION EVER of doing journalism, they are not there for that.

Rouse him, and learn the principle of his activity or inactivity. Force him to reveal himself, so as to find out his vulnerable spots.

(14,111 posts)they won't fire him no matter what he does, and he's far too bullheaded to admit he's wrong and resign. So that's that. I like to see him squirm though.

Fox News ToU - FOX News furnishes the Site and the FOX News Services for your personal enjoyment and entertainment. - Foxnews.com
They make no claims that the word "News" is something that should be considered News. Viewers see the word News and think that Fox News should be no different and held to no less of a standard as a News organization, but they're not a News organization, they are an Entertainment organization.
So really, all this entertainment is 100% consistent with their mission.

(5,829 posts)go to court to prove it, tho. And attempt to drag all other legitimate news programs down with them.
I remember in 70s I watched Harry Reasoner & Howard K Smith nightly news. After actual news, they'd end show alternate days w/ an opinion piece (one lib, one conserv). It was nice separation of 'news' & opinion.
Right, the word "news" is just a slang expression, you know.

The solution to this is not easy and could take as long as it took Murdoch to create this corporate fascism .

-he claims that while covering the El Salvador fighting that he saw nuns get shot in the head
-he claims he was in Florida at the front door of Lee Harvey Oswald friend and Warren commission witness George de Mohrenshildt when he heard a gunshot signaling the latter's suicide
Any more?

(65,616 posts)The crime here is that people think Foxnews is real news that they need to hear. O' Blowy is a pundit, we should label them as different than say a reporter or a journalist. The distinction is very clear imo.

(1,254 posts)Despite orders to stay out of the melee and film from the sidelines, BillO kept going out into the crowds, dragging a cameraman with him. When the police/soldiers started to disperse the crowds firing teargas and plastic bullets, all hell broke out. If BillO got caught up in that, it was his OWN FAULT. It was not necessary to take that risk. Its like going to Pamplona Spain to report on the running of the bulls. If you step out in the path of the bulls and get trampled, you are not a hero. You are a fool!
