Bill O'Reilly about Falkland-controversy: "I want to stop this now. I hope we can stop it."

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2015/02/cbs-releases-falklands-protest-footage-bill-oreilly

Excerpts:

"CBS News today posted its reports from Buenos Aires at the end of the Falklands war, in response to a request from Fox News host Bill O'Reilly, who has been seeking to counter reports that he mischaracterized his wartime reporting experience. But rather than bolstering O'Reilly's description of the anti-government protest he says he covered as a "combat situation," the tape corroborates the accounts of other journalists who were there and who have described it as simply a chaotic, violent protest."

...

"They say tear gas was deployed; police clubbed people with nightsticks and fired rubber bullets; reporters were assaulted by demonstrators and by police; and a photojournalist was wounded in the legs by gunfire. But these media accounts did not report, as O'Reilly claims, that there were fatalities."

...

"The footage captured a dramatic clash—including a shot of a protester, apparently injured, lying on the ground—but none of this footage shows Argentine military or police firing into the crowd with live ammunition and killing civilians."

...

"As he showed the CBS footage on his show, O'Reilly claimed that unidentified local media sources had reported fatalities. "We don't know how many deaths," he remarked. And he insisted, "I told it exactly the way it was." Referring to the controversy about his Falklands claims, he said, "I want to stop this now. I hope we can stop it.""

I can't help but remember reporters wearing gas masks in Kuwait City

Go to about 4 minutes, the clip begins a Retired Navy Admiral (odds are he was a contractor appearing as part of the organized Pentagon propaganda media operation), I like how he notes there are people walking around & cars driving around but like he said earlier "most of these people are unprepared in the event of a biological attack" and that they're aren't "carrying around gas masks". The clip ends with the "city is deserted" but you still see a "few people walking around" (they also happen to be -- the few people -- that are walking & driving cars in front of the camera)

While I don't know the real story behind, every gut instinct is telling me this is stunningly manufactured bullshit. I don't know what Kuwait City was like in 2003, but Kuwait was very, very low risk for any sort of combat. The 92G in our unit, I was taken back by his still "fear of the unknown" over what lies across the border several months into deployment. The statement was made in-context to the other 92G used for a convoy slot.

I'm not sure what to compare it to but one thing is to hype up something in Buenos Aires in Argentina. Another to hype up something in a city that looks like a mix of Miami & Phoenix (Coastline-downtown - outer parts look more like Phoenix) with infrastructure that is in much better shape & condition than our own in a country that merely borders (& Southern Iraq was very low risk in the early years) that country engulfed in conflict

You push your half truths on your show and you harp on them for no end thinking somehow if you repeat the lie over and over again knowing that the low IQ viewers that watch your show will take on those lies as truths. Bill, you repeat those lies over and over again until EVERYONE KNOWS IT. Then those viewer start repeating those 'truths' everywhere like they think they know something when in fact all they are doing is spreading the lies created by you on your show that were reported as 'news stories'

So guess what Bill, this happens to be the real truth and it will NOT STOP because like you Bill we do not stop repeating the story until EVERYONE KNOWS IT.

Unless you've been miserable at managing your money, you're set for the rest of your life. Go do something else, something you enjoy.

Alas, what he enjoys is being an asshole, blowhard, and center of attention.
