Axelrod: Rudy Giuliani Is A 'Fading Politician Lighting Himself On Fire'

"There's one thing Rudy said, when he said that 'he doesn't love me,' meaning Obama doesn't love Rudy Giuliani. I suspect it's true that the president doesn't love Rudy. But the rest of it was, you know -- my reaction to it was very, very angry," Axelrod told HuffPost Live.

Giuliani has since published a Wall Street Journal op-ed in which he wrote that he "didn’t intend to question President Obama’s motives or the content of his heart."

Axelrod said Monday he thinks the entire conversation had more to do with Giuliani's public profile than Obama's history of patriotism.

"This was more about Rudy Giuliani, a fading politician, kind of lighting himself on fire and trying to get some attention, and he was successful in doing that," Axelrod said.

much of Barnicle, either.. but calling out rudy is coming from all ends of the spectrum.. except from the usual idiots running for gopretzeldentin..

"The clock on Rudy Giuliani’s end of days began ticking as soon as he walked out of City Hall. He ran for president once, his candidacy going up in flames nearly the moment he first opened his mouth. Now he’s opened it again and all that emerges is bitterness and a contempt that borders on hate. What a brutal end; a self inflicted TKO."

As far as I am concerned, he was in on the attacks that occurred on 9/11 in 2001.
He knew what was going to happen before that day.
I remember how he didn't want to hold the election for new mayor of NYC after the attacks on the WTC.
To me, his power grab was too obvious.

Sad for Rudy, he brought back all the awful memories of HIM. The cousin marrying adulterer, friends with convicted felons. The background of loan shark enforcer father. He will NEVER be regarded as a "fine upstanding citizen" Took lots of deferments from the draft, then says "I will go anywhere to defend this country" Except NOT in uniform to any place dangerous!! I wonder if Rudy's face got lm the way when his father was wielding that baseball bat on his victims. He looks like he was beat up with the "ugly stick"

Still, his obvious intention was to make VOTERS question Obama's patriotism.

Kind of splitting hairs, Rudy.

He went from symbolically running around naked to get attention to, as Axlerod said, setting himself on fire. The GOP has kept pushing the envelop to what it means to jump the shark these days. Anything short of bombing the White House is fine with them and even that would have its proponents. The right-wing is so extremist these days that nothing is too outrageous for them to say or believe. Obama is a Manchurian candidate for an advanced civilization of socialist cannibal plants from another galaxy that will usher in the Anti-Christ? Why the hell not?
