Story hereFrom the article:
Law enforcement sources say the legendary "Star Trek" star was transported to UCLA Medical Center last Thursday.
We're told paramedics weren't taking chances with Captain Spock and got him in front of a doctor ASAP. Nimoy's been in and out of hospitals multiple times in the last few months.

(53,661 posts)Later in college microbiology and chemistry we went into the changes from smoking on a cellular level. I think boys when he was young were swayed by advertising, films and television programs to take up the habit. I know men who started in their early teens and smoked for years with very serious health effects, very sad.
Good luck, Mr. Nimoy.

(86,005 posts)The Star Trek star was reportedly hospitalized with chest pains last week, but he was up and tweeting yesterday and today, each message tagged with his trademark "LLAP" sign-off.
Just over a year ago, the now 83-year-old actor revealed that he had been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease after he was photographed in a wheelchair and with with an oxygen tube in his nose at the airport.
"I quit smoking 30 years ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP," he explained at the time, adding, "I'm doing OK. Just can't walk distances. Love my life, family, friends and followers. LLAP."
It's unclear whether he has been released from the hospital yet, or how much time he spent there at all, but yesterday he posted a snippet from his original poetry on Twitter:
I will be sharing my poetry. Today's is, "You and I have Learned," which is in my book, These Words Are for You. LLAP pic.twitter.com/CsHAtmtDnz
Leonard Nimoy (@TheRealNimoy) February 22, 2015
And today his perspective seemed just as intact, Nimoy writing, "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP."
LLAP, indeed.

(27,247 posts)At any rate, "Dr. Spock" almost always refers to this guy:

By the way, one day back in the early '80s I found myself standing behind THE Dr. Spock in a line at the local shoe repair shop, of all places. I didn't know it was him until the guy at the counter said, "Here are your shoes, Dr. Spock". Dr. Spock had become a local celebrity for a while because he had bought a house out on the nearby lake, and the one chance I had to talk to him, I blew it

(26,355 posts)It was only when the emergency occurred with Khan and the Genesis device, that Admiral Kirk, being the senior officer, took command from Captain Spock.

(12,778 posts)The Enterprise was technically a training vessel in Star Trek II, not on active service, but it was pressed into action because no other ships were close enough to Regulus, where the Genesis prototype was being developed.
I'm not sure if the "Lost Years" books are considered canon, but in the first book of the series, Spock had been offered a promotion to Captain with a position as instructor at Starfleet Academy. He didn't take the promotion at that time, choosing instead to take a long sabbatical on Vulcan to immerse himself in the Kolinahr discipline.

(12,778 posts)He was briefly the captain of the Enterprise (Star Trek II). Though he was later Kirk's first officer again, he was never demoted in rank.
If you'll watch Star Trek VI, you'll notice that the Klingon chancellor refers to him as "Captain Spock." He was also referred to as "Captain Spock" by the Federation president at the end of Star Trek IV.

(12,778 posts)Yes, I'm a nerd. I grew up on Star Trek. I loved the movies, books, even the animated episodes. The first two series were great, but I was a little burnt out by the time Deep Space 9 came around. My friends and I still have deep conversations about which captain was better, Picard or Kirk. I'm a Picard man myself, but I still love Kirk.
I haven't watched any of the new "reboot" movies because it's a completely different story line that just hasn't pulled me in. Plus, I'm getting older, and it's harder for me to get into new things.

(12,778 posts)The old Constitution class Enterprise wouldn't have stood a chance. Picard's Enterprise, a Galaxy class, might have had a shot if its warp drive was intact.
