Meow the now 37-pound cat has become quite a traveler. The white and orange shorthair gained national attention when he was taken in by the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society.
The elderly owner could no longer care for him. He had ballooned to 39 pounds.
He and his caretaker flew to New York to appear on "Today" and "Anderson Cooper." He even met actor Hugh Grant while at the Today show.
On the way home, the portly feline - who has already dropped two pounds since being in the care of the shelter - got a patdown by a TSA agent at the airport!
Perhaps they thought a kitty this big has to be carrying some contraband.

(32,088 posts)The cat on my lap is going to get a pat down as soon as I'm done typing this. And, she'll love every second of it. Just like she always does--multiple times every day.

(20,219 posts)Awwwww! Make sure she hasn't got any contraband catnip!
I gotta get to work....shucks! Shrimpy will have to wait for the rest of her Security Checks. (hate that I have to leave her!!)

I hope the cat, showed how he/she disliked beeing pat-downed by the TSA.. They have a nasty bit, and some nastier claws that can, at least tell the humans who treated him what to expect... This is so stupid, that even a TSA agent should know better...

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,836 posts)He probably enjoyed the attention. If he's anything like my cats he doesn't care who pets him as long as somebody does.

I know - have had a few ones over the years - and most of them like been "patted down"... Even one of them, who was a old, cranky male cat, who have a great distrust for everything human, sometimes liked to be patted, if I just did it gentely... One of the few times, he even let me gentle give him a stomage rub.. And he liked it

(30,151 posts)My cat and my wife's cat don't have nasty bits, except just the one. They tend to clean it 30-40 times a day though
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,836 posts)but I get to see the nasty bit when any of my cats gets on my chest in the morning and presents his/her backside to me for my approval.

I meant bites - that if the cat bite you in a finger, or a hand, or whatever part of the human body a cat is able to get "their hands on" when they want to make a statement of sorts....
But for the most part, if cats is socialized, is to be nice and rather comfortable being cuddled with... I miss my cat, had to give here away because of a nasty allergy.. The climate is better - but I do miss having a animal inside the house....

Poor kitty. Hope they can get some of that lard off him.
If a cat loses a lot of weight, what happens to the fur? Do the hairs get closer together?
