Rep. Jim McDermott (WA-07) is betting that it's 6-3 in favor of ACA

Rep Jim McDermott (WA-07), author of the single payer bill HR 1200, attended most of the Democratic Legislative District caucuses on Saturday. He attended the Supreme Court hearings, and told us that he watched the arguments not as a lawyer, but as a psychiatrist. He said that he observed fear in two of the swing votes, and attributed that to fearing that single payer might be enacted if the mandate was struck down. He predicts that the law will be upheld 6-3.

For people whose children will lose coverage or who have preexisting conditions, losing would be a nightmare. It isnt an abstract exercise. It is life & death.

However, I am very afraid that the reactionaries will just say "Yay! We killed Obamacare! Now let's kill Medicare!"

I am less convinced. How do we get 50, let alone 60, Senators, when Bernie Sanders said in 2010 that there are about 10?

As to those, not McDermott, wanting the SC to overturn it - I think they are not realistic about the resulting outcome.
This is the same "Nader" logic that it has to get much much worse before a radically different approach - one demonized by the right - could be passed. The more likely outcome is that we are back to where we were in 2008 - only worse as there will be little energy or hope to immediately try again.
