Best Part of Oscars tonight..

Lady Gaga doing a medley of songs from Sound Of Music. Her Pitch is lower which made it slightly more difficult to carry off.. But it really worked..

I admire her stance on social issues, so I am a big fan of her talent..

It’s easier to sing acoustically than with a Microphone..

But when one watches those vids of Gaga, they will see she's more than her meat dresses and pop/dance songs.

You and I probably most definitely agree that she is multi-talented and always looks so secure of herself when she is on stage..

By the way my two favorite films won.. Ida and Birdman.. Ida was terrific..

Hope you see it...But I gotta tell ya.. i disliked Whiplash( unrealistic) Top Music Director in a Conservatory using words like “Cunt” and actually hitting students. Like that would be tolerated. He would have been fired in a second..

Tony Benet the past couple years, they do some cool duets.

That's the only area of her singing I've ever heard. She has a good stage presence going on too.

and extremely well.

I was shocked. She's my favorite singer even though she doesn't sing anything I like. If I don't watch her, and just listen, she has a beautiful alto voice. I never knew about the high soprano that she can do, and it's a pleasant soprano, not the screamy kind you hear sometimes.

She was best in show. I think she'll be getting an award herself one of these days.

Her standing ovation was louder and longer than anyone's, and if Julie Andrews hadn't come out to announce best music in a movie, they'd have clapped for Ga Ga even longer. She almost brought the house down...

talent speak for itself has been a smart move. She's always had great pipes but stunts like the meat dress were a big distraction. She's matured and it shows. Great job tonight.

I've been a fan since Day 1. I love her pop/dance songs, but she has real talent.
I am glad different audiences are starting to see and appreciate her talent.

I am loving her toned down performances of late with Tony Bennett and now at the Oscars. And her new look is amazing. She looked beautiful last night.

She's truly a star.

She never would have gotten the acclaim she deserves if she hadn't started out so "goofy."

She never fooled me - her voice stood out as golden in her worst songs with her unholiest moves. Family could never believe I really liked her, you know, just trying to sound "young." That was never the case.

Madonna at her worst behavior has a great voice. It's just too bad that love songs and ballads are not doable any more. Argentina was great in its way too. Why do they make fun of actresses and singers if they get old? Meryl Sreep is the exception, and I never go to a movie to see her, or watch on on TV either. Not my type.

When I think of who's been popular - Celine Dione, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Barbara Streisand (at the end of all her songs), Katy Perry, and a few others - they SCREAM too much. When played too loud at the grocery store I want to run out to give my ears a break. Ga Ga doesn't scream.

I think I heard that her dad plays in Springstein's band. He must go crazy when she does a new song when he KNOWS her ability.

Ga Ga and the Beagle are Best in Show...

Good voice, but not great, imo. But, I will always love Madonna, and I love her dance/pop stuff. She did do a fabulous job with the Evita songs--I will give her that.

He had me the minute he started to sing, and the speech that preceded it.
Their song nearly brought the house down too - but it was not a surprise. We all knew it was great even before the Awards started, and it's still great tonight. My praise for Ga Ga has nothing to do with Academy Awards. It's a girl I like (for some reason) showing her true colors.

But Ga Ga was a surprise. I kept thinking she was going to pull off her gown and start wiggling her butt in front of the camera. When it didn't happen after a minute or so, I realized that Ga Ga could do anything.

She sang for a LONG time doing songs that Andrews didn't sing in the "Sound of Music." So many octaves for a girl I thought was so goofy but blessed with a nice voice.

Now I have 3, no make it 5 or 6, real favorites, Frank Sinatra, Ga Ga, and Harry Belafonte Day-O, Day-O....had all his and Frank's albums and cherished them. Oh, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, and I'm an old lady blathering on and on.. They were all "beagles" of their time.
"

Sorry.

22. Birdman

I'm glad Birdman and Inarratu won the Oscars for best picture and director.

I love Magical Realism anyway, and looking at American society and its collective psyche through that lens has proved to be especially revealing. No other movie came close to that kind of insight and originality.

I'm sorry Selma and Danny Oyelewo didn't get nominated, and that women in Hollywood suffer pay discrimination, but at least the Oscars did get something right with Birdman.

After I saw the movie last October, it took me awhile to process. I think it might have helped me from the outset to know that it was written and directed from a Latin American perspective; once I knew that, it all came together... a truly remarkable film juxtaposing a deservedly caustic look at American stage method acting with an Americanized comic book cum paranormal magical realism.

I believe that magical realism is imprinited in the core of the Latin American psyche now, probably because of Garcia Marquez' Hundred Years of Solitude; and it soars to great heights in this movie (pun intended)... while at the same time playing well to North American film sensibilities regarding the human emotional elements playing off ego and competition memes that help define our North American psyche.

A well-deserved Best Picture. It was unlike anything I have seen, and I am a fairly big movie goer.

I saw 7 of the 8 Best Picture nominees (did not see Budapest Hotel) and all but one of the acting nominees (did not see Meryl Streep), and I thought the Oscars did a decent job with their nominees.

I thought Oyelowo deserved a nod, but thought Selma was just good, not great. It did get a Best Picture nomination, though.
