The eagle has landed, and it's nesting in record numbers

One nest is just North of us. We see him hunting from time to time. Last time it was a goose.

MARK DAVIS / THE WORLD HERALD
Bald eagles remained on the federal threatened and endangered species list until 2007. The next year, Nebraska removed the bird from its endangered list.

Not only have eagles landed in Nebraska, but they’re feathering their nests in record numbers.

Continuing a soaring trend, Nebraska hosted a record 146 known bald eagle nests last year, with adult pairs actively incubating eggs or tending to young in 111 of them, according to the State Game and Parks Commission.

Nebraskans, however, shouldn’t be lulled by the growing number of nests and consider annual records to be routine, said Joel Jorgensen, Game and Parks’ nongame bird program manager in Lincoln.
“It’s worth taking a few moments to consider this species’ remarkable recovery,’’ he said.

I have never seen an eagle in the wild. There's quite a few up here in CT too. I just haven't seen any.
