The vast majority of vessels go into winter maintenance mode from mid January to late March, as that coincides with when the Soo Locks close.

Ice stranding is not fun.

place to be stuck. And it was 90% frozen over earlier this week.

I guess many don't realize that mariners on GLs have a dangerous job -- just lakes, not the ocean or anything, right? Sure..
