ISIS's violent bona fides are not in doubt to anyone paying attention. They've targeted religious minorities, beheaded aid workers, sold women into sex slavery and have been all-around devastating for those under their rule. But as America debates the possibility of a full-scale ground invasion of ISIS-controlled territory, it's important to note that much of the ISIS threat — namely that which targets the West — has been habitually overstated by an uncritical media.

In no particular order, here are the ten most bogus ISIS scare stories over the past year:

1. I tink we're getting close to the FBI having arrested more people attempting to join ISIS

than there are Americans actually fighting for ISIS.

2. I don't understand the need to make the horrible worse than they are

They're despicable. They're outrageous. They're horrific. Why add to the story?

3. ISIS could not in their wildest most evil dreams have imagined how the Western media has

swallowed their propaganda whole and spread it with unrestricted enthusiasm, even adding to it with speculation. "We eat babies" is Twittered and the media can not report on that fast enough because it could be true! So..be afraid.....ISIS Mission Accomplished.

If the goal of terrorism is to spread terror why is the media helping them? ISIS is lying, somehow that harder to believe than that they are evil?
