3. In my state it can mean county jail, misdemeanor, verses prison, felony.

If you are in the county jail, here at least (Oregon), jail crowding tends to result in early release if you're in the county jail.

Anyway, it's a felony sentence.

The extra day allows a convict to qualify for time off for good behavior. One year is likely a longer sentence.
