Time Warner Cable takes turn to insult customer

A week after Esperanza Martinez called Time Warner Cable regarding a problem with her cable box, she received a letter from the company in which her first name was replaced with “C—,” according to a report from Ars Technica. The cancellation letter began “Dear C— Martinez” and pitched her an “exclusive offer” on TV, Internet and phone service.

In an email with Ars Technica, the Orange County resident wrote that she was not trying to cancel her Time Warner Cable service and that she was not upset when the company’s technician could not resolve her issue.

Time Warner Cable issued a public apology and contacted Martinez directly over the incident. They also offered her one year of free cable and Internet service. A Time Warner Cable spokesperson told Ars Technica the mistake was done by an employee at a third-party vendor. “We have terminated our agreement with this vendor and are changing our processes to prevent this from happening again,” the spokesperson said.

Cable companies are not known for keeping customers happy. (Comcast and Time Warner both ranked in the top 20 on a recent Harris Poll of companies with the worst reputations.) Earlier this month, Comcast made headlines for changing a customer’s name to “Super B—- Bauer.” In January, a customer received a bill in which his first name was changed to “—hole.” It’s an interesting moment for both companies, as Comcast is currently awaiting regulatory approval for a merger with Time Warner Cable.

Looks like the merger will go smoothly.
